Advocaat: Definition

 

Made from egg yolks and either spirits or wine, this is a type of drink that is served both before and after meals. The best-known brands are made in Holland, but there are versions made in the U.K., although their right to the name has been legally forbidden. It is only very slightly higher in alcohol than table wine. Sometimes flavoured versions are produced, and it is also used in certain mixes, especially the ‘Snowball’ combined with fizzy lemonade.
