Head Injuries and What to Look For
Any head injury which is severe enough to cause bleeding or a bruise could also fracture the skull or cause concussion. Head injuries can be caused by falls – off a ladder or down a flight of stairs, for example.
What to look for
If you think that someone may have suffered a blow to the head, look for any or all of the following symptoms. If you find any, take the person to the doctor or to the Accident and Emergency Department of your local hospital.
• Drowsiness, confusion or unconsciousness.
• Loss of memory. Inability to remember the accident.
• Severe headache.
• Bruising or a deep cut on the scalp.
• Also get medical help if the person is drunk, suffers from epilepsy or is a small child.
