Salmon Fishing Method: Salmon on Dry Fly
Comparatively few anglers usefor salmon, but it is a perfectly effective method of fishing. Unlike trout, salmon do not position themselves in order to rise steadily to summer hatches of fly. Very occasionally they can be seen rising to Olives but more usually they go for insects of bulk and size.
Dry flies for salmon are of the bushy Palmer type, which presumably resemble moths, sedges, and similar fare.
In salmon fishing, perhaps more than in any other branch of angling, traditional methods tend to congeal and ossify into dogmas which sundry authorities insist should not be tampered with.
