What is Cramp? Relieving the Pain
The painful muscle spasm called cramp has various causes:
• Becoming cold during or after exercise such as swimming.
• Poor muscular coordination during exercise.
• Loss of salt from the body through severe sweating, vomiting or diarrhoea.
• It also occurs for no apparent reason when people are asleep.
Cramp can be relieved by stretching the affected muscles. You can do this yourself, but it is often easier if another person gently forces the limbs straight.
