Whisky Cocktails – Whiskey Based Cocktail Recipes


‘Old Fashioned’

Metric

  • 1 measure Bourbon whiskey
  • 1 x 5 ml spoon sugar
  • 1 x 5 ml spoon water
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • ice
  • 1 slice orange
  • 1 maraschino cherry

Imperial

  • 1 measure Bourbon whiskey
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon water
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • ice
  • 1 slice orange
  • 1 maraschino cherry

Stir together the whiskey, sugar, water, bitters and ice in a mixing glass. Pour into a rocks glass and decorate with the orange and cherry.


‘Scotch Solace’

Whiskey cocktails - 'Scotch Solace' Metric

  • ice
  • 1 measure Scotch whisky
  • 1 x 5 ml spoon honey
  • ½ measure Cointreau
  • 150 ml milk
  • 1 measure single cream
  • 1 x 2.5 ml spoon grated orange peel

Imperial

  • ice
  • 1 measure Scotch whisky
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • ½ measure Cointreau
  • 5 fl oz milk
  • 1 measure single cream
  • ½ teaspoon grated orange peel

Fill a highball glass with the ice and pour over the whisky, honey and Cointreau. Stir until the honey has dissolved. Add the milk, cream and orange peel.


‘Boilermaker’

Metric

  • 1 measure whisky
  • beer chaser

Imperial

  • 1 measure whisky
  • beer chaser

Serve the whisky straight with a beer chaser on the side.


‘Rusty Nail’

Metric

  • 1 measure Scotch whisky
  • 1 measure Drambuie liqueur
  • ice

Imperial

  • 1 measure Scotch whisky
  • 1 measure Drambuie liqueur
  • ice

Stir together the whisky, Drambuie and ice in a mixing glass. Strain into a cocktail glass or pour into a rocks glass.


‘Morning Glory Fizz’

Metric

  • 1 measure Bourbon whiskey
  • 1 egg white
  • 2 x 5 ml spoons sugar
  • 2 x 5 ml spoons lemon juice
  • 1 x 5 ml spoon Pernod
  • ice
  • soda water

Imperial

  • 1 measure Bourbon whiskey
  • 1 egg white
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Pernod
  • ice
  • soda water

Shake together the whiskey, egg white, sugar, lemon juice, Pernod and ice. Strain into a tumbler and add soda water to taste.


‘New Yorker’

Metric

  • 1 measure Bourbon whiskey
  • juice of ½ lime
  • 2 dashes Grenadine
  • 1 x 5 ml spoon sugar
  • ice
  • 1 strip orange peel

Imperial

  • 1 measure Bourbon whiskey
  • juice of ½ lime
  • 2 dashes Grenadine
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • ice
  • 1 strip orange peel

Shake together the whiskey, lime juice, Grenadine, sugar and ice. Strain into a cocktail glass and decorate with the orange peel.


‘Mint Julep’

Metric

  • 1 x 5 ml spoon sugar
  • 1 mint sprig
  • soda water
  • 2 measures Bourbon whiskey

Imperial

  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 mint sprig
  • soda water
  • 2 measures Bourbon whiskey

Put the sugar and mint in a highball glass and add a little soda water. Mash the mixture thoroughly. Pour over the whiskey and add soda water to taste.


‘Whisky Cobbler’

Metric

  • ice
  • 1 x 5 ml spoon sugar
  • 2 measures whisky
  • 2 slices orange
  • 1 slice lemon

Imperial

  • ice
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 measures whisky
  • 2 slices orange
  • 1 slice lemon

Half fill a rocks glass with ice. Add the sugar and whisky and stir. Decorate with the orange and lemon slices.


‘Highball’

Metric

  • ice
  • 1 measure whisky
  • dry ginger ale
  • 1 strip lemon peel

Imperial

  • ice
  • 1 measure whisky
  • dry ginger ale
  • 1 strip lemon peel

Put the ice in a highball glass and pour over the whisky. Add ginger ale to taste and decorate with the lemon peel.


‘Whiskey Sour’

  • 1 measure lemon juice
  • 1 x 2.5 ml spoon sugar
  • ice
  • 1 slice orange
  • 1 maraschino cherry

Imperial

  • 2 measures Bourbon whiskey
  • 1 measure lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon sugar
  • ice
  • 1 slice orange
  • 1 maraschino cherry

Shake together the whiskey, lemon juice, sugar and ice. Pour into a rocks glass and decorate with the orange and cherry.
